Connect X (Twitter) with your own developer keys
LazyRelay supports Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) for X on Pro, Business, Agency and Agency Plus plans. You publish through your own X developer account, so you stay in control of your keys, your budget and your spending limit.
🛡 Why BYOK is a power move
- Direct line to X: Your posts are published with your own developer credentials, on your own X developer account. No shared company key sits in the middle.
- Your own limits: Your X developer account has its own rate limits and spending limit, so what you use never affects other LazyRelay customers, and theirs never affects you. X's limits and your plan's rules still apply.
- Transparent consumption: LazyRelay adds no X charges. X bills your developer account directly for what you actually use.
- Privacy: Your four keys are stored encrypted in our Vault. They are never shown back to you or to our support team in the app, and support will never ask you for them. Disconnect any time to erase our copy. To revoke fully, regenerate the keys in your X console.
What X charges
X sets and changes its own pay-per-use rates. These are the standard rates as of October 2026.
| Action | Cost billed by X |
|---|---|
| Plain text post | about $0.015 per post |
| Post containing a link | about $0.20 per post |
| Reading a post back to confirm it is live | about $0.005, once per post |
LazyRelay confirms each post is live with one read of that post. We do not poll your posts for metrics on X connections that use your own keys, so a quiet account does not drain your balance in the background. Check X's pricing page for the current rates.
Step-by-step setup
- Open the X developer console. Go to developer.x.com and sign in with the X profile you want to post from. Sign up for a developer account. X charges per use from a credit balance.
- Add credits and set a spending limit. Open Billing in the console, load a small starter balance and set a hard monthly spending limit so you stay in control of your budget.
- Create your app. Click Create Project, then Create App, and give it a name you will recognise.
- Set Read and Write permissions. Open the app's Settings, find User authentication settings and click Set up or Edit. Set App permissions to Read and Write. Choose "Web App, Automated App or Bot" as the type. X asks for a callback URL and a website URL: enter https://lazyrelay.com for both. Save. Do this BEFORE step 5, because tokens keep the permission they were created with.
- Copy your four keys. Open Keys and tokens. Generate and copy the API Key and API Secret. Then generate and copy the Access Token and Access Token Secret, and check that the Access Token says Read and Write. If it says Read only, regenerate it after saving step 4.
- Connect in LazyRelay. Open Social Platforms, choose X, paste the four values, tick the acknowledgement box, press "Check my keys", then "Save and connect".
LazyRelay support will never ask you for your keys. Never paste them into a chat or an email.
BYOK for X is available on Pro and above.
